A child practising martial arts with guidance
Movement / attention / respect

Schools & children's groups

Learn to move. Explore boundaries together.

Skill First offers practical martial arts workshops for schools and existing children's groups. Children explore posture, space and cooperation. They try something new, listen to each other and discover which choices change an exercise.

In a school setting

A physical task makes a boundary tangible.

What happens when you step closer? How do you say you need more space? Simple partner exercises make these questions visible and open to discussion. The focus is on movement and clear agreements, rather than winning or hard contact. This is martial arts skills training, not therapy or treatment.

What children can explore

Three starting points, one attentive approach.

An introduction does not have to be a full lesson in one martial art. We choose tasks that fit the age, experience and group context. A school can start with one theme or introduce different forms of movement.

Hands and distance

Boxing exercises let children experience rhythm, posture and the space between two people.

Move and respond

Simple kickboxing movements help them explore balance, direction and timing.

Find position together

Grappling tasks make balance, contact and respecting agreements tangible.

For a school or group

A format that fits the children.

A class workshop, activity day and series each need a different structure. We discuss age, participant numbers, supervision, available space and the school's goal beforehand. Then we choose exercises and agreements that fit the setting. A topic such as children's physical resilience also needs this preparation.

Workshops

Introduction workshop

A first experience of posture, distance and controlled partner tasks.

Sports or activity day

An active session where children try different movements together.

A series of sessions

More time to revisit a theme, repeat it and gradually vary the tasks.

Awareness and boundaries

Exercises on space, clear communication and a suitable response.

Beyond school

Have an existing group in mind?

Organising something for a children's group outside school, or asking as a parent about possible options? Tell us the ages, group context and what you want to explore. We can discuss whether a suitable workshop is possible.

Discuss a children's group

For your school

What question matters to the group?

Tell us which children the session is for, what the school wants to practise and the setting available. We can discuss the possibilities without assuming a standard package.
